Good sleep is essential for quality of life

Whether your problem is getting to sleep or staying asleep, it is possible to train your brain to sleep well so that you have enough energy and mental capacity.

In restful and restorative sleep, the brain waves slow way down. In deep sleep there is neural maintenance and repair of cells and networks. Without that, performance is impaired. If you respond to being under-slept with more agitation, that is a vicious cycle.

Sleep deprived people are very bad at assessing how impaired they are. It is hard to believe someone who says “I’m fine” after a night of insomnia.

You might find a certain pill or alcohol gets you to sleep, but sleep quality suffers. And there are side effects – known and unknown.

Biofeedback is a non-invasive and learning oriented approach to relaxing the central nervous system. Sleep quality is often one of the first things my clients tell me has improved.
